What is the School of Ministry Development?

The School of Ministry Development (SOMD) at YWAM Cultivate gives the DTS graduate space to focus and refine their calling as a leader – and put it to practical use! The SOMD at YWAM Cultivate is for disciples who are ready to be equipped for a lifetime of serving Jesus.

TRAINING PHASE (3 MONTHS)

During the Training Phase, students will be working through provoking topics that are vital for Christian leadership. These include topics like servant leadership, discipleship, pioneering, effective public speaking and communication, Bible study, personal vision and calling, and more! During the SOMD Lecture Phase students will also be given hands-on leadership practice. They will be given opportunities to help facilitate and teach on the DTS that will be running on base, lead different aspects of local ministry, and take on base responsibilities that help YWAM Cultivate run smoothly. This is all for the purpose of giving SOMD students real-life ministry leadership experience that will serve them wherever the Lord calls them!

Leadership schools come in different forms, designed to meet the needs of the students, equipping them for servant leadership while giving opportunity for personal growth and development. Two emphases offered in this category of school are: School of Ministry Development (SOMD)- During this school students discover and develop their gifts and talents in leadership roles. The course is especially designed for new staff at YWAM centers and is adapted to the context of the language and culture of the country in which it is taught. Some of the topics are: understanding the core values of YWAM, perspectives on missions, generational thinking, transforming cultures, personal fund-raising, worship and evangelism, personal ministry development, public speaking, spiritual authority, and conflict resolution.
